In the Indian Sanatani tradition, since ancient times, any new work is started by considering the auspicious time. Mahurat Shodhan is a scientific process. In today’s time, everything can be easily known through astrology. For the success of every work, an auspicious time is essential. An unfavourable time is unsuccessful and inauspicious. Mahurat refers to a specific period of time that is influenced by the light rays of planets and stars in a particular situation. This effect definitely contains the element of favorability or unfavorability for a particular work. Mahurat plays a crucial role in rituals and the timing of those rituals.
Mahurat is the selection of an auspicious time to start any important work. It is a self-created destiny; its duration is two dhati, i.e., 48 minutes. We understand this through Panchang. Panchang, i.e., five parts—1, Tithi; 2, Nakshatra; 3, Day; 4, Karan; 5, Yoga:
1. Tithi: Bhogshansh of the Moon – Bhog Hansh of the Sun/12
Tithi: Types of Tithi, Factors of Tithi, Siddha Yoga (Success in work), Mrityu Yoga
Tithi 1, 6, 11 Nanda Shubh, Annada Karma Friday, Sunday, Tuesday
Tithi 2, 7, 12 Bhadra Normal Wednesday, Monday, Friday
Tithi 3, 8, 13 Jaya Vijayprad Tuesday (Case, quarrel) Wednesday
Tithi 4, 9, 14 Rikta Inauspicious, only for Sadhana Saturday, Thursday
Tithi 5, 10, 15/30; Poorna 5, 10; Shubh 15/30; Normal Thursday, Saturday
Tithi Kshay: The Tithi that starts after sunrise and ends before sunrise the next day is called Tithi Kshay.
Tithi Vriddhi: The Tithi that starts before sunrise and ends after the next sunrise is called Tithi Vriddhi.
Tithi Gandaat: The last one ghati of Poorna dates and the first one ghati (24 minutes) of Nanda dates are called Gandaat, which are prohibited for auspicious work.
Nakshatra Gandaat: The last two ghatis (48 minutes) of Mercury’s constellations and the first two ghatis of Ketu’s constellations are called Nakshatra Gandaat; these are also prohibited for auspicious work in Mahurat.
Lagna Gandaat: The last half ghati (12 minutes) of lagna’s 4, 8, and 12 signs and the first half ghati of 1, 5, and 9 are called Lagna Gandaat; these are also not considered auspicious.
Chandrama Gandaat: If the degree of the moon is from 0 degrees to 3 degrees 20 minutes or from 23 degrees 40 minutes to 30 degrees, then the moon is considered to be in Gandaat.
This position is not considered auspicious.
Nakshatra:- Nakshatra is considered to be the most important among the five parts of Panchang in Mahurat. Our 28 Nakshatras are classified in 7 ways, which are divided into auspicious and inauspicious natures.

Bhadra:- At the time of Bhadra, if the moon is in 4, 5, 11, or 12 zodiac signs, then Bhadra resides on Earth. If the moon is in 1, 2, 3, or 8 zodiac signs, then Bhadra resides in heaven. If the moon is in 6, 7, 9, or 10 zodiac signs, then Bhadra resides in the Pataal Lok. Wherever Bhadra resides, it causes harm; it is considered inauspicious. If Bhadra resides on Earth, it is considered more inauspicious; Bhadra’s work is to destroy; it is forbidden in auspicious work. (Bhadra killed Daksha; she was born out of Shiva’s anger) (If Bhadra resides at the end of Bava, Balava, Kaulava, etc., Karanas, then if the native does Grihapravesh or any other auspicious work during this time, then his work will face obstacles and the work will get spoiled.)
{Bhadra is considered auspicious in Shiva worship, court cases, yagya, fights, and barter.}
