In our country, marriage timing can be defined as the union or association of two persons of opposite sex, who join each other through a ritual/legal process to fulfill the common goal of Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha in their lives. In Indian culture, marriage timing is considered to be a sacred relationship of seven births, already decided in heaven, in which they are to be followed by each other. However, in some countries of the present world, it is taken as a legal contract before marriage timing.
From the astrological point of view, the key to a successful marriage depends on the conjunction/position of some planets, the condition of the couple, and the transit of the planets.
According to Jyotish Shastra, the timing of marriage can be broadly divided into the following categories:
(i) Early Marriage
(ii) Normal Marriage
(iii) Delayed Marriage
(iv) Delayed Marriage
(v) Refusal of Marriage
If we analyze the actual incidences of marriages, it can be observed that 60 to 70 percent of marriages take place in the Dasha or Antardasha of the Lords of the 1st House, 5th House, and 7th House, and Ekadasha Dravid of the respective native’s horoscope. However, some of the astrological combinations for early marriage are as follows:
(i) Direct auspicious planets should be situated in the 1/7th axis of the horoscope, and no inauspicious planets should be situated in the 2/8th axis of the horoscope.
(ii) The position of Lagna Lord, Venus, Jupiter, and Saptamesh should be good for early marriage in marriage timing. Hence, these planets should be situated in the Kendra or Trikona in the native’s horoscope and in auspicious signs. Also, these planets should not be combust; they should be retrograde and should not be in Paap Kartari yoga. The Shada Bal of these planets should be very good for marriage timing.
(iii) Proximity of Lagnesh with the lord of the seventh house or Venus in the horoscope, according to degrees, causes early marriage.
(I) There may be a little or slight malefic effect on the 1/7th and 2/8th axis of the native’s horoscope. The effects of Sun, Rahu, and Ketu are considered mildly malefic.
(ii) Venus and Jupiter should not be setting and retrograde, and auspicious planets should be located on the 4/10th axis of the horoscope. Late Marriage (25 to 32)
(i) There should be strong malefic effects like Saturn and Mars on the 1/7th and 1/8th axis.
(ii) Venus, Shubh, and Darakaraka should be setting and retrograde.
(iii) Kuja Dosha in the horoscope, i.e., Mars being in the first, second, fourth, seventh, eighth, and twelfth houses of the birth horoscope, is considered Manglik Yoga. The placement of Mars in the seventh and twelfth houses of the horoscope is considered 100% Kuja or Mangal Dosha. The remaining positions are minor doshas in marriage timing.Delayed Marriage (32 above)
(i) Saturn plays an important role in delayed marriage. The conjunction of Saturn and the Sun, or Saturn, has an important role in the horoscope. Also, if Saturn is in a square with Venus for a male native or Mars for a female native, then marriage is considerably delayed.
(ii) The placement of the seventh lord in the eighth house or the eighth lord in the seventh house and the lagna lord in the twelfth house causes delay in marriage.
Denial of Marriage
(i) There is very little difference between delayed marriage and refusal of marriage. Saturn plays an important role in this category, too. When the Moon and Venus are under the control of Saturn, the native has no craving for marriage; his desire or interest goes towards spirituality or moksha.
(ii) The conjunction of Sun and Saturn in the seventh axis can cause denial of marriage. If Venus and the seventh lord of the horoscope are weak, like in combustion and under the control of Saturn, then marriage can be denied.
(iii) The seventh lord of the horoscope; Venus and the Lagna lord are in weak signs or three Lagnas, like the Sun, Moon, and Saturn, aspecting the Lagna. All these combinations can cause denial of marriage in marriage timing.
Married life is the most important part of life, which determines the success and completeness of life, and provides all kinds of material happiness and satisfaction. In Indian tradition, marriage is considered a sacred “Sanskar” of life, without which a person’s life cannot be complete. This is why the life partner is called Ardhangini. According to Jyotish Vigyan, the following houses and planets of the horoscope are responsible for a happy or unhappy married life:
(ii) Second House—It is considered as Kutumb House. Hence, it decides the entry of a new person into the family.
(iii) Fourth House—Sukhasthan, or House of Happiness—This house determines all kinds of happiness in a person’s life.
(iv) Fifth House—House of Romance—House of Purva Punya—House of Children—One of the most important houses, as it promotes romance between the couple in the first stage of married life and helps in getting children thereafter. However, this house acts based on accumulated Punya, or good karma, done by the native in his previous birth.
(v) Seventh House—This is the main house of marriage. The lord of this house, planets aspecting this house, and planets placed in this house play a vital role in a successful married life. Apart from this, the marriage timing, the seventh house from the Moon and Venus, should also be checked before concluding.
(vi) Eighth House—This is the house of longevity; hence, it should be checked before marriage.
(vi) Twelfth House—House of bed pleasure or sexual intercourse.
(vii) Moon—It is the significator of the mind. For mental peace in life, the Moon must be auspicious.
(ix) Mars—Mars is the planet of agility and masculinity; hence, it plays a vital role during sexual intercourse.
(x) Extra Libra and Scorpio signs should be taken into consideration, as these represent the natural seventh and eighth houses of the zodiac.
